Memory Monday – Injuries
I’m a klutz. Or maybe I’m just absentminded.
But I get hurt. A lot. Maybe not a lot. More like fairly often.
As a kid, I would trip over my own feet a lot. Still played soccer….
Actually my very first injury was me falling of my fathers lap, as he was putting me in my coat. Still have a bump from that. It’s kinda interesting. Then when I was a wee bit older, bouncing on the couch (don’t do it!) I fell off and got a nice scar just above my eye…
My very first – and only – concussion happened at a birthday party at a class mates, when I was about 10. Was showing off on one of the boys’ BMX bikes, and crashed. Hitting my head pretty good on the pavement, scraping my whole left side as well. Don’t remember much of how I got to my friends couch, but remember vividly how her mother was insistent, that i should just take a nap, then I’d feel better. Called my mom instead. I knew that wasn’t good, even back then. Never went to the hospital, but my parents watched me good.
I’ve broken the scaphoid bone in both my wrists. The right one twice – first time slipping on a patch of ice, hurting my wrist, my ass and my pride. Second time, getting spooked by a black cat on my way to the train station. Jumped to the side and tripped on the curb.
My left one, I fell on my parents kitchen floor. Was wearing socks and slipped on their hardwood floors….bam!
I’ve had knee surgeries in both of my knees to fix or clean up my meniscus.
When I was a teenager, I practically walked only by help of crutches because I kept spraining my left ankle…..first time by jumping across a puddle and landing wrong.
I’ve fallen and hurt my right knee several times. First time was skiing. Stepped on my right ski with my left one and fell forward on my ski with my knee. It hurt. I didn’t ski for the rest of the trip (mind you, this was a 10th grade school trip to Norway, cross country skiing). The second time I hurt it pretty bad. Fell down a flight of stairs, landed on a concrete step that didn’t give. Parts of my patella did. The backside cracked like a piece of glass. I was foolish enough to try and walk it off for weeks, and ended up needing extensive surgery to clean up that mess. Probably will need a new knee at some point.
I recently did the same thing. Except this time it was slipping on a wooden ramp, which did give a little, but still beat the crap out of my knee. Nothing broken, but man, the bruise is epic. Keeps moving downwards, getting more and more purple. Not on the knee, but on both sides of it.
