It’s been a year……

It’s been a year, since my last post.
It’s been a year since our lives were turned upside down….

And while 2020 started out with the January that seemed to last 6 months, followed by February that was like 6 days long…..then came March. When all hell broke loose. Technically it started with a bat in December 2019, but March is when things got out of hand, mostly because a lot of big nations (looking at you USA) didn’t take it seriously.

I had a cold, that wasn’t quite a cold, but it was also discovered in late February that I had a chronic sinus infection (that had probably been there since the previous spring, when I kept getting pneumonia, but that’s old news), so really didn’t think much of it, except there was that whole world wide decease/virus called corona. So even though I had a few of the symptoms, I didn’t have a fever over 101°F so I couldn’t get tested. I was asked to quarantine, because it was a possibility. I could end quarantine after 2 weeks provided my symptoms had lessened. Which they had. So I was out of quarantine on my birthday. Yay! Except the world had shut down over the course of those couple of weeks, and everyone’s world was turned upside down….well for those of us living in a State taking it seriously. Others (and many) lost their lives because of hesitation. People in charge not taking it seriously.

For my part it was followed up by 5 months of being laid off. Which worked out because schools turned online.
At first, while finishing the school year, with minimal effort on the educators. They were learning how to do things differently too. Many having a really steep learning curve when entering the following school year because all leaning was made remote.

A lot of people would be working from home. And a lot of others would lose their jobs.

Frontline workers would consist of grocery store clerks and early learning teachers along side with doctors, nurses, pharmacist and firefighters.

Toilet paper was hoarded. Then wet wipes and hand sanitizer.

People would get guidelines from CDC regarding social distancing and washing hands.

Mask mandates would follow. And not being respected.

People all over the globe would have impromptu sing-alongs on balcony’s and celebrities discovered that they were not above this virus.

Schools have started back with hybrid learning.

Now a year later we can look back at the madness. Vaccines getting distributed…..not at the fastest rate but finally more consistently.
And with leadership accepting the virus, not wanting to hide the numbers and the concerns. But taking this serious!

It’s been a year…..but we have far from reached safety.
We are getting there slowly but surely.

The vaccine is not the end all, cure all. It is a tool. Just like the masks. And the handwashing. And the social distancing. And it’s all here to stay. For now.
